At Rainy Lake Family Dental we provide the option of dentistry for kids under 13yrs of age to be completed in the hospital under general anesthesia. This modality of treatment is for moderate/severe cases where treatment cannot be completed in office. Treatment required may be more involved or extensive or your child will not tolerate time in the dental chair. Young children with dental pain and/or infection require treatment at any age—sometimes that means your child will need to go under general anesthesia. Of course, there are many reasons for this. Some dental procedures require your child to lie completely still, there may be a lot to fix, or the noise of the drill may be scary. The goal is always to provide the safest, most pain-free treatment with the least amount of trauma to the child.
Fast Facts about anesthesia and your child’s dentistry:
- Your child’s dentist will recommend general anesthesia to perform dental treatments only if it is needed.
- Your child will sleep through the procedure and have no memory of it.
- When anesthesia is needed, there are special rules for eating and drinking at home before the procedure.
- Your child will have some restrictions after the procedure.
